What To Expect When Getting A Same Day Crown Procedure

It's possible you need to have a crown placed on your teeth. It could be due to an accident that chipped your tooth or perhaps wear and tear making your teeth more brittle. Your teeth can look great again using crowns that are placed on top of your existing teeth.

However, crowns can take some time for the dentist to make and place on your teeth.

If you don't have the time it takes for the procedure, then perhaps you might want to ask your dentist about getting a same-day crown, such as a CEREC same-day crown.

If you are opting for this procedure, here is what you can expect.

Tooth Preparation And Impressions

In order for a same-day crown to fit over your existing teeth, some preparations need to be made.

The dentist will prepare your teeth for the crown by removing any decaying or rough areas of the tooth. They will then shape the tooth so it can hold the crown in place comfortably.

With a same-visit crown, for example, a CEREC same-day crown, the dentist won't remove as much of the tooth and will leave more of the structure behind to provide stability.

Next, the dentist will make an impression of the teeth that will have a crown placed on them. Instead of traditional impressions using a putty-like substance, the dentist will take a digital impression.

This is done by using a small 3D camera to take pictures of the teeth. These pictures are then transferred to a computer that will form a template for the crown.

The dentist will then create the crown using a milling machine right in their office. These crowns are made from ceramic and the dentist will mold the crown using the template of your existing teeth as a guide.

The Crown Is Placed

Once the dentist has polished and made sure the color of the crown matches your teeth, they will ensure it fits your teeth properly. Then, the dentist will place the crown securing it using a cement substance.

A crown, such as a CEREC same-day crown, once in place will be just as stable and sturdy as a traditional crown.

The dentist will give you instructions on how to care for it until it's firmly sealed.

Why You Should Consider It

If you are in need of getting a crown but don't have the time to head back to the dentist over several days, then you might want to consider getting a  crown that won't take up too much of your time,  such as the CEREC same-day crown.

It will save you time and you can have your smile back within a day.
